It has built in thermal and over-current protection but we could barely tell it got hot. The output is a high frequency 250khz square wave PWM that is then 'averaged out' by the speaker coil - the high frequencies are not heard. Comes with a fully assembled and tested breakout board. There's even a volume trim pot so you can adjust the volume on the board down from the default 24dB gain.

We also include header to plug it into a breadboard and a 3. 5mm screw-terminal blocks so you can easily attach/detach your speaker. The output is "bridge tied" - that means the output pins connect directly to the speaker pins, no connection to ground. This board is a welcome upgrade to basic "LM386" amps! The A+ and A- inputs of the amplifier go through 1.

Mini Metal Speaker w/ Wires - 8 ohm 0.5W

1" diameter. Lightweight. 8 ohm 05w. It's very similar to the speaker in the Drawdio kit. We particularly like this cone as it's very simple and its metal body is extremely lightweight. Just be careful not to overdrive it if you're using the class D amp breakouts as it can put 1. 7w into the speaker, blowing it out! Start with lower volume and increase carefully.

. This tiny 1" diameter speaker cone is the perfect addition to any small audio project where you need an 8 Ω impedance and will be using 05w or less of power. Works great with our Wave shield or class D amplifier board.
